Braid Bible: How To Pigtail Dutch Braid

You asked, we delivered: Pigtail Dutch Braids (aka inverted French braids), a popular style, frequently sported by the Kardashians. So stop, drop everything, and grab a brush and hair tie—it’s Braid Bible time! Learn how to create this hair masterpiece as we walk you through the easy, step-by-step instructions on how to DIY a gorgeous braid. Let’s get started.

Step 1: Make sure your hair is completely brushed through to avoid any tangle trouble mid-braid.

Step 2: Divide your hair into two equal sections. Unlike a traditional braid with three sections, this particular plait only requires two sections to start. We will braid the left side first, so twist up the right side and secure it with a clip.

Step 3:  Separate the hair into three sections and prepare to weave a classic Dutch style braid. Start with the right piece under the middle, then the left under the middle, and so on. Remember to add a little more hair each time you pull from each side. Be sure to take even strands for a cohesive look!

Step 4: Repeat the three-strand Dutch braid pattern until the end of your hair is reached.

Step 5: At the bottom of the braid, tie it with a hair elastic. Use these ties for a glam look or try these to keep it subtle. We used Goody SlideProof Spiky Soft Touch Hair Elastics to finish with a pop of color.

Step 6: Repeat steps 3-5 on the remaining right half of your hair.

Step 7: Optional step—take a few face-framing strands of hair out of the braid for a softer look. Voila! Enjoy for the rest of the day.
